Farsun — Privacy Policy
The short version: Farsun has no ads, no tracking, no third-party SDKs, and no email or password account. Its one optional purchase is handled entirely by Apple. If you sign in to Game Center and use the online features, the game stores gameplay data, a callsign you choose, and your Game Center nickname in Apple's CloudKit so other players can duel you — and you can delete all of it from inside the app. Here are the specifics.
What Farsun never does
Farsun contains no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting software. To be specific, the app does not:
- Show ads, use advertising identifiers (IDFA), or track you across other apps and websites
- Collect your email address, phone number, real name, contacts, or location
- Sell or share data with data brokers or advertisers
- Require an email or password account — the full single-player game works with no sign-in at all
- Send anything to a server run by the developer; the only online services the app talks to are Apple's (Game Center, iCloud, CloudKit, and the App Store for the one optional purchase)
Playing without signing in
If you are not signed in to Game Center, nothing about you or your play leaves your device, apart from the private iCloud sync of your own progress described below. The voyage, the daily sector, seasons, and the hangar are all playable offline.
Game Center (optional)
If you choose to sign in to Game Center, Farsun submits your scores and achievement progress to Apple's Game Center service so leaderboards and badges work. This is entirely optional — the game is fully playable without signing in, and all single-player progress works offline.
Game Center is operated by Apple, and any data handled through it is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not this one. The developer never receives your Apple ID, email, or real name through Game Center.
iCloud sync of your progress
Farsun can sync your game progress — scores, unlocks, and settings — across your own devices using Apple's iCloud (the iCloud key-value store tied to your Apple ID). This data lives in your personal iCloud account. The developer cannot see it, and it is never sent to any other server.
You control this entirely in iOS Settings: turn iCloud Drive or iCloud for the app off and nothing syncs. Game progress remains stored locally on your device either way.
Pilot profile (optional)
Farsun has no email or password account. If you choose to use the friends features, you can create a pilot profile: a callsign of up to 12 characters and an emoji sigil that you pick. The profile is tied to your Game Center player through a hashed identifier derived from your Game Center player ID for this game — it is not your Apple ID, email address, or real name. A short friend code is derived from that identifier so other players can add you.
What is stored online
When you are signed in to Game Center and use the online features, Farsun stores the following in the app's public database on Apple's CloudKit, where other copies of the game can read it:
- Your hashed player identifier
- Your pilot profile: callsign, emoji sigil, and friend code
- The rivals you have added and the friend requests you have sent
- Duel challenges you have sent and the results of duels you have answered
- The duel runs you upload: score, run duration, your ship's flight path, the positions of enemies you left alive, your arena rating, and your Game Center nickname
This is what makes echo duels work: another player flying the same sector can face the enemies you left behind and see your ghost, and you face theirs. The developer can see these records in the CloudKit dashboard in order to operate the game and act on reports. They are not used for advertising, profiling, or anything other than running the game.
Uploaded duel runs are short-lived: the app deletes your own runs once they are more than five days old, and duel challenges expire after 72 hours.
What other players can see
Your callsign, emoji sigil, and Game Center nickname are shown to players you duel or add as rivals, along with your scores and the ghost of your run. The callsign is the only free text one player can show another — Farsun has no chat, no messaging, and no image sharing between players.
Callsigns pass through a profanity and abuse filter when saved and again before they are displayed. You can block any pilot (which hides them everywhere on your device), report a pilot (which opens an email to the developer containing that pilot's callsign and identifier), decline friend requests, and remove rivals at any time.
Deleting your data
In the app, Settings → Online → Delete pilot profile & online data removes your profile, friend links, challenges, and uploaded duel runs from CloudKit. Your voyage progress stays on your device.
You can also email drew0716@icloud.com with your callsign or friend code, and the developer will delete your online data within 30 days. Game Center scores and achievements are held by Apple and are managed in your Game Center settings; progress synced through iCloud lives in your own iCloud account and is managed in iOS Settings.
Push notifications
If you allow notifications, Farsun uses them to tell you when a rival has answered one of your runs, sent you a friend request, or challenged you to a duel. Permission is requested in context — after your first uploaded run, sent challenge, or friend request — never at launch. Notifications are delivered through Apple's push notification network using CloudKit subscriptions tied to your hashed identifier. You can turn them off at any time in iOS Settings, and the rest of the game works normally without them.
Photos, clips, and sharing
Farsun's photo mode and kill-cam clips are rendered by the game itself from your own gameplay. If you choose to save one, the app asks for add-only access to your photo library so it can write that file; it cannot read or browse your existing photos. Share cards, clips, challenge links, and friend links go through the standard iOS share sheet, and only to wherever you choose to send them.
On-device features
On devices that support it, the rival before an elite sector can show a one-line taunt generated on your device by Apple's Foundation Models framework. Nothing is sent to the developer or any external service for this; devices without it use fixed built-in lines.
The home screen can respond to tilting your device using the motion sensors. That motion data is read on the device, used only for the visual effect, and never stored or transmitted.
Purchases
Farsun offers one optional, one-time purchase: the Supporter Pack, which unlocks cosmetic items. The purchase is processed entirely by Apple. Farsun does not receive your payment details and does not send information about your purchase to any server of ours; the game only asks Apple, on your device, whether your Apple Account owns the pack.
If you email support
The Contact Support button in Settings opens an ordinary email draft to drew0716@icloud.com with the app version in the subject line. You write and send it yourself, and nothing is sent unless you choose to send it.
Links to other services
Farsun contains links you can choose to tap that open the developer's website, including this policy and the terms of use. These open in Safari or the relevant app and are operated by those companies under their own privacy policies. Farsun shares no data with them — following a link is entirely up to you.
Children's privacy
Farsun is not directed to children under 13. When Game Center reports that an account has multiplayer or communication restrictions — as child accounts typically do — the friends features are hidden, so no pilot profile can be created from that account. If you believe a child has created a profile, email the address below and it will be deleted.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes that affect how your information is handled will be reflected here before they take effect.
